Eight arraigned for theft in Lagos
Eight males have been on Monday introduced earlier than a Yaba Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos for allegedly belonging to an illegal society and robbing individuals with harmful weapons.
The defendants have been Devis Qudus, 25, Ismailia Jamiu, 23, Rafiu Shodipo, 33, Wasiu Kareem, 33, Kabiru Oduloye, 39, Ademola Rasheed, 28, Adegboro Yusuf, 41, and Azeez Binuyo, 28.
They are charged with conspiracy, theft and belonging to an illegal society.
They pleaded not responsible.
The prosecutor Thomas Nurudeen, an assistant superintendent, informed the courtroom that the defendants dedicated the offences on February 25 at 8.45 p.m. below Idumota Pedestrian Bridge, Lagos Island.

Nurudeen mentioned the defendants have been members of an illegal society often called “Eiye” confraternity and had been threatening the neighbourhood.
“They used cutlasses, knives and big sticks to threaten passersby and force them to hand over their belongings,” Nurudeen mentioned.
He mentioned the defendants stole a wristwatch valued at N8,500, an Infinix cellphone costed at N48,000, an IPhone 10 and a Huwei IX9 Prime each valued at N455,000.
“The defendants also stole an S9 Samsung phone valued N150,000, two Tecno phones valued N77,500 and an Itel P-51 phone valued N28,000 from seven complainants,” the prosecutor mentioned.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwatoyin Oghre, granted the defendants bail within the sum of N1million every with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till April 29 for point out.
