My hooligan husband is menace to my life, lady tells courtroom

A Customary Court in Ibadan on Monday dissolved the 10-year-old marriage between Mujidat Odemoye and her husband Semiu over alleged menace to life.

Mujidat petitioned the courtroom presided over by Chief Ademola Odunade, saying that her husband had fully wrecked her enterprise by his acts of hooliganism and was a menace to her life.

She mentioned Semiu basically lived on smoking Indian hemp and consuming locally-brewed gin popularly known as ogogoro.

“My lord,” she mentioned, “anytime Semiu sees me promoting palm wine to male prospects, he turns into mad, accusing me of sleeping with them. I used to be promoting palm wine earlier than he married me 10 years in the past and I can’t cease it.

“Semiu continually batters me and sometimes tells boasts that nothing will occur if I die from his punches and kicks. Recently, once I ran away from his house, Semiu and his associates stormed my store to destroy my containers, bottles and kegs containing palm wine.

“He doesn’t take care of me or the children.”

The bailiff mentioned Semiu, who was not in courtroom to defend himself, was  been given listening to notices and had tried to assault him.

“My lord, when I served him the hearing notice for the third time, he told me that the court was not there when he married Mujidat and so cannot tell him how he would treat her,” the bailiff mentioned.

Odunade pronounced the wedding dissolved and granted custody of the couple’s two youngsters to Mujidat.

He ordered Semiu to pay N10,000 for the kids’s month-to-month feeding and to be accountable for their training and different welfare wants.

Odunade additionally directed {that a} copy of the judgment must be despatched to Semiu.
